Circle Time

A content-sharing app that fits activities for
kindergarten teachers.
UX Shira Tittman

The Problem

Kindergarten teachers have difficulty finding and producing the appropriate content for the daily activity

Many kindergarten teachers experience difficulty in performing the many and varied tasks while finding and tailoring content for their children. They need to provide large amounts of content throughout the day, week, month, and year.

The Consequences

Waste of time and effort in finding and inventing appropriate content

Work under high pressure leads to fast burnout at work

children's lack of interest and frustration, disciplinary issues, and parental dissatisfaction

Competitive Research

I researched sharing content apps, arts & crafts, peer consultation, and more

In my research I examined applications for teachers, content sharing, arts and crafts and peer consultation.

I wanted to explore how other apps deal with specific challenges I found and learn from their solutions and mistakes.

01

ENCOURAGE  USERS

in order to encourage users to upload content to the app, we will build a feedback system between users, allow free content viewing for users that share their content, and award titles to users who upload a lot of useful content

02

TAILORED  CONTENT

in order to tailor the exact content for the user we will ask him questions about the age and nationality of the kindergarten during the onboarding process, allow filters according to criteria that are important to the users and offer the user content according to previous searches

03

HIGH  QUALITY  CONTENT

In order to ensure high-quality content, we will provide a clear template with tips at first uploading, select talented gardeners that will set a high standard for the quality of the content present content according to their rating, and allow users to report unprofessional content

04

USER  RETURN

in order to make the user return to the app, we will send notifications of relevant new content, reminders for the preparation of the equipment of tomorrow's schedule, and a content rating request

Users Research

Interviews with 8 kindergarten teachers and 35 questionnaires

I interviewed 8 kindergarten teachers and let another 35 answer a survey. These kindergarten teachers have a different professional experience, starting from the first year in the profession up to 32 years. 25% of the teachers belong to the special education. The other 75% teach at institutions of regular education.

Conclutions
1

Kindergarten teachers are looking for content according to the content topic / content type / skill they want to work on. In order to allow an accurate search, we will offer search options and filters according to these parameters.

3

Since kindergarten teachers try to work as little as possible with their cell phones, we will allow printing the schedule and content

2

The teachers talked about the difficulty in managing the daily agenda. That is why we will allow placing content within a schedule and provide a required equipment list

4

Due to the need for synchronization with assistants and a substitute teacher, we will allow sharing the schedule with additional staff

First year expirience

Preschool, 3 years old

"The first years are the hardest. Most teachers use content from previous years. A new teacher starts with nothing!"

In order to allow teachers to build their own content repository that they can use again in the coming years,

we will allow the content to be stored in personal folders.

The solution

A content sharing app that finds accurate content for each kindergarten according to age, nationality, and time of year

The app will offer relevant content and filtering options by topic, learning a skill, or content type. The teacher will be able to view, save and embed content into a schedule that she builds for her kindergarten. The kindergarten teacher can print out the schedule, share it with other staff members and enjoy reminders and equipment lists.

Target audience

Kindergarten teachers for children aged 2.5-6.5 In all years of seniority

The value

Saving time and effort.

Improving the level of content and function in the kindergarten

The goal

Placing at least one activity within the schedule is alreadyalready at the first login to the app

The product

I chose the features that will be in the app and organized them into the sitemap

Wireframes

Understanding the user, made wireframing easy

The kindergarten teacher's daily life is so busy that the user flow had to be short, accurate, and easy. For example, in the simple onboarding process, the user is asked only 4 questions that are the most important in order to fit the needs of the kindergarten. We explain the importance of those questions to the user and give him control of knowing where he is within the short process.
